WELCOME TO ORGANIZATION 1866 IN HISTORIC SOLANO CANYON
1866, is a non-profit, IRS 501(c)(3)* headquartered in Solano Canyon. Francisco Solano and Rosa Casanova, Costa Rican immigrants to Los Angeles in 1848 purchased 87 acres of land from the City in 1866 — hence the name of our non-profit.
1866 carries forward the legacy of community-building in Historic Solano Canyon —a small, multi-lingual, multi-generational Los Angeles neighborhood— by continuously connecting residents with our powerful, local history of resiliency through civic engagement in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the world. We are a tiny, but mighty community non-profit lead by two dedicated board members who are both long-time Solano Canyon residents.
1866 in Historic Solano Canyon is committed to historic preservation and environmental and public space stewardship.
